Killing Of George Floyd- The Complete Story

It’s a Monday evening in Minneapolis, the largest city of US state, Minnesota.    






An employee at Cup Foods called 911 accusing a 46-year-old black man of buying a pack of cigarettes using a counterfeit $20 bill.






The police respond to the call immediately and the black man, namely, George Floyd is arrested.







Seventeen minutes later, the man to be investigated lies motionless on the ground and is reported dead, soon after.

8:08 pm – First police car arrives at the convenience store.
It’s 8:10 pm, two police officers, Thomas lane and Alexander Keung approach Floyd’s blue SUV CAR, parked across the street.
A few seconds later, Lane pulls out his gun and orders Floyd to show his hands.







At 8:12 pm – Floyd is handcuffed; Keung sat him on the sidewalk against the restaurant.





 According to video footages recorded by bystanders’ and the installed digital cameras, any sign of violence cannot be seen from Floyd’s side. He is already seen in distress.

Six minutes later, they take him to the police vehicle.
Floyd fells to the ground and tells the officers he is claustrophobic.

Nine minutes into the arrest, the third and final police car arrives on the scene.
It is carrying Derek Michael Chauvin, and Tou Thao, both of them having previous records of complaints.

During the attempts to put George in the police vehicle, Chauvin pulls George away from the passenger side, causing him to fall on the ground.    
He lies there, face down and in handcuffs.
That’s when the witnesses started filming the last 8 minutes of Floyd.
Two officers restrained Floyd’s torso and legs, Derek Chauvin brutally placed his left knee between his head and neck, while another stood there to prevent onlookers from intervening.
"I can't breathe," he said at least 16 times turned out to be his last words.
It’s 8:27 pm, Chauvin removes his knee after 8 minutes and 47 seconds after being confronted by the bystanders about Floyd's unconscious condition .
Floyd is lying there with no signs of a pulse in his wrist.
About an hour later, he was pronounced “‘dead”.

THE PROTESTS BEGIN
Four officers involved in the arrest of George Floyd are fired.
Video of George Floyd’s arrest is widely circulated.
Hundreds of demonstrators take to the streets of Minneapolis and vandalise police cars and the police station.







27 MAY 
Protests spread to other cities. In some places, like Portland, Oregon, protesters lie in the road, chanting "I can’t breathe".







Demonstrators set fire to the police station where George Floyd was arrested.






28 MAY-
PRESIDENT OF US TWEETS
Trump threatens to send in the National Guard in a tweet if the violence doesn’t stops. He follows it up with a second tweet, hidden by Twitter for "glorifying violence" which states "when the looting starts, the shooting starts".

29 May-
A CNN reporter is arrested while covering the Minneapolis protest.






31 May-
THE NIGHT OF VIOLENCE
A total of at least five people are killed in protests. More than 75 cities have seen protests. At least 4,400 people have been arrested. Curfews are imposed across the US to try to stem the unrest.

Mr Trump poses in front of a damaged church shortly after police used tear gas to disperse protesters nearby.
He threatens to send in the military to quell growing civil unrest.

4 june-
Obama Voices Support for George Floyd Protesters and Calls for Police Reform




 

9 June - George Floyd's funeral was held at Fountain of Praise in Houston, Texas and 500 guests had attended the service.
 His body was on display at the church for six hours on Monday. Mr Floyd's coffin was taken to cemeterin Pearland, south of Houston, for a private burial ceremony. Barriers were erected along the route to allow members of the public to pay their respects safely as the procession passed. Memorial services were held in Minneapolis and North Carolina, where Floyd was born.
